Project Overview

A cross-cutting research programme exploring multiple pathways for decarbonising steelmaking: (1) Hydrogen-based direct reduction of Indian iron ores, (2) Carbon capture and utilisation from BOF and DRI exhaust gases, (3) Electric arc furnace route optimisation using 100% scrap/DRI blends, and (4) Bio-carbon alternatives to metallurgical coke. The programme has produced 14 peer-reviewed publications and 3 patent applications. Current phase focuses on techno-economic modelling of integrated hydrogen-EAF routes for Indian steel plants.
